The 8 Sabbats || The Wheel of the Year

THE 8 SABBATS || The Wheel of the Year 🌙

So since today is Mabon and a lot of my followers are new to witchcraft/paganism, Here is a small summary of what the wheel of the year is & it’s history!

What is the wheel of the year?

The wheel of the year is an ancient solar / nature based calendar with Celtic roots. It marks the eight celebrations most modern day witches, pagans and Wiccan people celebrate. The eight sabbats are a way to honour the earths cycle & celestial celebrations throughout the year, including four solar festivals and four seasonal festivals that honor the changing seasons. As each festival is celebrated, there is a focus on gratitude, reflection, release, and nature worship.

The sabbats are most commonly celebrated by Wiccans & Celts but if you’re looking for a more Greek, Roman, or Nordic observance, then I recommend looking into Norse Paganism, Hellenism, & Roman Paganism Calendars!

Why do we celebrate?

The Wheel of the Year provides a solid, intentional framework for marking the passage of time through the lens of the natural world and the journey of the Sun. Using a calendar with festivals roughly every 6 weeks allows us to stay consistently connected to the rhythms and cycles of nature.⁣⁣ This practice is deeply and authentically rooted in the ideologies and values of the ancient Northern Traditions, even if the festival names and dates are not. ⁣The turning of the seasons and the journey of the Sun was universally important to our people’s survival, traditions, and religious practices.⁣⁣⁣

my favorite source!

Note: Not everyone follows the wheel of the year or agrees with the terms!! if you don’t have the energy to celebrate on that day, you can push your rituals and celebrations to whenever, nature will understand!
